Project Goal
To create a modern informational website on WordPress for emergency contraception products. The main objectives were: update the design, implement responsive layout, and migrate and organize all existing materials (product descriptions, instructions, contraindications, FAQs) on a new platform.
Challenges
- The previous resource consisted of separate HTML pages and PDF brochures, making it difficult for users to find relevant information and for editors to update content.
- Outdated design and lack of mobile responsiveness hindered usability — a critical issue for the target audience (women and healthcare professionals often accessing the site via mobile devices).
- The client needed a fast, error-free launch while maintaining the accuracy of medical information and ease of navigation.
Work Performed
Analysis and Structure Planning
- Collected all source materials: instruction texts, packaging images, mechanism-of-action diagrams, FAQ content.
- Identified key user groups: women of reproductive age and gynecologists.
- Designed the site structure:
- Homepage with a brief overview of the products and key benefits;
- “Products” section: mechanism of action, composition, indications and contraindications;
- Instructions for patients and a dedicated page for healthcare professionals;
- FAQs with commonly asked questions;
- Articles about emergency contraception methods;
- Contact page with feedback form.
- Created menu and page prototypes to define UX paths for each target group.
Content Migration and Structuring
- Extracted text content from PDFs and legacy HTML pages; edited it according to current regulations by the Ministry of Health and WHO.
- Organized materials by theme (mechanism of action, contraindications, recommendations) and imported them into WordPress for easy editing.
- Optimized all images for the web: reduced file size while retaining high resolution.
- Added internal links between related sections for better navigation.
Responsive Layout for WordPress
- Developed a custom WordPress theme based on the approved design using modern CSS techniques.
- Ensured accurate rendering on all screen sizes: desktop, tablet, and smartphone.
- Implemented a responsive hamburger menu for mobile devices.
WordPress Integration and Plugin Setup
- Deployed WordPress on the client’s hosting and configured an SSL certificate for secure browsing.
- Installed and configured essential plugins:
- SEO optimization for proper meta tag generation and sitemap creation;
- Caching and performance optimization.
- Configured user access roles.
Testing and Optimization
- Performed cross-browser testing on current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, and verified mobile performance on iOS and Android.
- Checked layout and behavior of responsive elements: menu, galleries, and contact forms.
- Minified CSS and JS files, and enabled lazy loading of images — reducing homepage load time by at least 35%.
- Tested adverse reaction reporting forms: ensured email alerts and data storage in the WordPress admin panel.
- Set up basic redirect rules to properly forward old URLs to new ones without losing traffic or SEO rankings.
Result
- The new WordPress website was launched on schedule with zero downtime.
- All content — instructions, FAQs, and expert articles — was successfully migrated and updated.
- The clean, intuitive interface enables users to quickly find essential information (e.g., mechanism of action, dosage timing, contraindications).
- Responsive design significantly improved mobile usability: mobile traffic increased by 50%.
- Page load time was reduced by 35% compared to the previous site, positively impacting user behavior metrics.
- The client received a complete, easy-to-manage system: pharmaceutical department staff can independently update content, publish news, and add new research using the familiar WordPress editor.
Conclusion
This project not only modernized the site’s design and structure but also centralized all information about emergency contraception products in one accessible location. Thanks to professional front-end development, optimized content, and a user-friendly WordPress backend, the website is now a more effective tool for informing both patients and medical professionals about safe and effective emergency contraception methods. We’re proud to have helped the client build a modern, reliable communication platform.
